Free will
How much genuine freedom you grant the will.
The plain question
How free are your choices, really?
The poles
- Deterministic
- Every choice has prior causes; 'free will' is the story we tell afterwards.
- Compatibilist
- Your choices are caused and still free — freedom is acting from your own reasons.
- Libertarian (free will)
- Genuine choices aren't fully fixed by what came before; you could have done otherwise.
What it does not measure
Not political liberty — this is about the will, not the state. Politics lives on the society and authority axes.
An axis is a spectrum, not a box. A reading places your answers toward a pole — and only when you said enough to place them; otherwise it leaves the axis open.
